Hatimari Patshala – devoted for Santhali community

Hatimari village of Malda district was the first stoppage of the yatra on March 8th where a joint
meeting was organised by Vishnupur Palli Mangal Samiti and villagers. Head of the Samiti, Mr. Tarak
Nath shared that Hatimari was the workplace of freedom fighters during pre independence period.
After independence in 1966, a school was opened for the educational and cultural development in the area. Today, about 98 % student of the school are from tribal community. Mr. Manka Tundu, a Santhali tribal leader of Malancha village shared that around 2000 Santhali families live in the area. They have filed application for land rights under forest right act (FRA). They have also filed application for traditional Manjhi than but no positive action was taken on their applications. He further shared that most of the santhali families are cultivating land for the past four decades. They were given land by the local Riyashats before independence but their rights were not settled after land reforms in Satya grah Yatra.
