Ekta Parishad is a network of grassroots organizations campaigning for land rights and control over livelihood resources for marginalized communities, especially Dalits and tribal people. It estimates that a pro-poor land reform could lift 400 million Indians out of poverty.
The movement started a journey across India that will last more than one year. It will visit marginalized communities in 25 states. During the last month, 100,000 landless people will march 350 kilometers from Gwalior to Delhi demanding the implementation of pro-poor policies, in one of the biggest non-violent campaigns the world has ever witnessed.
The Yatra was flagged off at Gandhi Mandapam in Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India, on Gandhi’s birthday, the 2nd October.
